FLAG
The flag of Honduras was created on February 16, 1866, when José María Medina was President of the Republic. It is based on the flag of the former United Provinces of Central America, which in turn was based on the flag of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, the first Argentine nation-state.
The flag consists of three horizontal stripes of the same size, the outer ones blue and the central one white. In the center of the white stripe there are five stars of the same blue color, which symbolize the five countries that formed the former Central American Federation —Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica— and the ideal of the union of Central America. The national flag is described in the chorus of the Honduran national anthem.

Although the official description of the Flag indicates that it is "turquoise" blue, in practice it is made with many shades of blue, the vast majority of them in a dark hue such as cobalt blue, navy blue or turquoise. . For the historian José Carlos Cardona, the tradition of representing the flag with this tonality was institutionalized during the presidency of Vicente Mejía Colindres (1929-1933) and was consolidated during the mandate of Tiburcio Carias Andino (1933-1949), so that When the turquoise color became official in 1949, it could not become popular.
In September 2018, a deputy proposed changing the color of the flag to Mayan blue—possibly in reference to the Mayan civilization that occupied part of the national territory. Your web color in hex code would be: #73C2FB. In September 2020, the UNAH institutionalized the use of the color blue with hexadecimal code #00BCE4 to represent the flag until a tone was made official by the national government. On January 4, 2022, the Honduran Armed Forces announced a change from that month on their monograms, uniforms and logos, to represent the National Flag in turquoise blue. The announcement came shortly after the president-elect, Xiomara Castro, also announced the use of the flag in that shade of blue.

SHIELD
The coat of arms of Honduras was created by the Legislative Decree of October 3, 1825, it is composed of symbols alluding to its territory, history and the variety of natural resources that the country possesses. It was modified by Legislative Decree No. 7, of February 16, 1866 (which created the current Flag of Honduras), published in the Legislative Bulletin (of Comayagua) No. 4 of March 6 of the same year, being President of the Republic don José María Medina. The Phrygian cap with lights, which had previously appeared under the rainbow and above the volcano between the two castles, was replaced by a setting sun.
In the upper part there is a quiver full of arrows, which symbolizes the indigenous population of the country, the warrior life of the Indians and the memory of the chief Lempira, and two cornucopias, which contain fruits and flowers, which are joined by a loop, and hang from the quiver, symbolizing the vegetal wealth of Honduras. In the central part, oval in shape, a pyramid (forming an equilateral triangle) and two castles on which the rainbow appears, which symbolizes peace, the union of the Honduran family and the elevation of ideals. The triangle signifies the perfect equality of all Hondurans before the law; everyone enjoys the same rights and that everyone has the same obligations; the castles, one on the coast of the Caribbean Sea and the other on the Gulf of Fonseca (in the Pacific Ocean), signify the bastions in which the value of the aboriginal race was tested against the Spanish conqueror. The volcano in full eruption (although it is not a country known for these natural phenomena) located between the two castles, is the memory that he belonged to the group of five volcanoes that figured at the base of the equilateral triangle of the Federal Shield of the United Provinces of Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica). The rising sun, under the rainbow, spreads light and illuminates the horizon, highlighting the beauty of the country. It symbolizes freedom, love of country and hope, virtues for which Lempira lived and died at the hands of the conquerors.

The land on which the equilateral triangle is located is bathed by the Atlantic and Pacific oceans that symbolize the route that Christopher Columbus followed to reach this land in 1502. The oval symbolizes the receptacle where the memory of the date of political emancipation, with this legend written in gold letters on the white border that surrounds the oval: Republic of Honduras, free, sovereign and independent. September 15, 1821; the three trees that are on each side of the shield (oak on the right and pine, the national tree, on the left) signify the natural resources of the country, since in the jungles and mountains there is an abundance of precious wood. The range of mountains that forms the base on which the oval rests means that the territory is mountainous with a great variety of climate. The mines and miners' tools are an indication of Honduran wealth in gold and silver.
Until the moment of its independence, like all Spanish colonies, the coat of arms of the kings of Spain was used in Honduras (there was no Spanish national coat of arms until 1868). Dionisio de Herrera, as the head of the state of Honduras, decreed the creation of a national coat of arms on October 3, 1825. The coat of arms, together with the symbols of a historical nature, incorporates elements that represent the natural resources of the country that should be the object of preservation.
The description and uses of the Honduran shield are regulated in decree number 161 and in article 142 issued by the National Congress on January 10, 1935.
