FLAG
The Barbados national flag was officially unveiled on November 30, 1966, the island's first Independence Day, when it was first flown by Lieutenant Hartley Dottin of the Barbados Regiment.
The flag design was created by Grantley W. Prescod and was chosen from an open competition organized by the government of Barbados. More than a thousand registrations were received.

It consists of a triband of two overseas bands, said to represent the ocean that surrounds the country and the sky, separated by a golden middle band, which represents the sand. A black trident head, commonly called a broken trident, is centered on the gold band, and the fact that the staff is missing is significant. The trident symbol was taken from the colonial insignia of Barbados, where Poseidon's trident is shown with Britannia holding it. The broken lower part symbolizes a symbolic break from its status as a colony. The three points of the trident represent the three principles of democracy: government of, by and for the people.

ROYAL STANDARD
The standard of the British monarch, called in English "Royal Standard" (royal standard) is, as in the case of other monarchs and heads of state, his ensign or personal flag. Some Commonwealth countries that have kept the British monarch as head of state have adopted their own royal banners.
The royal standard in Barbados is a yellow cloth with a "bearded" fig tree (Ficus citrifolia) in its central part and two "prides of Barbados" (Caesalpinia pulcherrima), which is the national flower, located near the upper corners. On the fig tree a blue circle is represented in which the initial of the reigning monarch appears, the English royal crown (known as the Crown of Saint Edward) and a gold garland composed of roses.

SHIELD
The coat of arms of Barbados was adopted shortly before independence, on February 14, 1966, according to a decree of Queen Elizabeth II. The design is by Neville Connell, director of the Barbados Museum. Like that of other former British possessions in the Caribbean, it consists of a field supported by two animals and stamped with a helmet with a national symbol on top.
The central part of the Barbados coat of arms is known as the "golden shield". It consists of a field of gold featuring two "Prides of Barbados", which are the national flower (Caesalpinia pulcherrima of the Poinciana genus) and a "bearded" fig tree (Ficus citrifolia) that was common on the island at the time. when the Portuguese arrived on the island and from whom it is named.
