FLAG
The Albanian flag originates from a similar seal of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderber (Jorge Castriota), a 15th-century Albanian who led the revolt against the Ottoman Empire, leading to a brief independence for Albania between 1443 and 1478. Gjerg Kastriot adopted the seal and flag of the Byzantine Empire.

The flag of Albania has historically been dark red or blood red with the black double-headed eagle located in its center. In 1912, the autonomous government of Albania used these colors, differing from the current one in the size and drawing of the eagle. With the formation of the Kingdom, in 1920, this flag was adopted and in 1928 the Skanderberg helmet was added to the top. Between 1940 and 1992, the helmet was replaced by a red star with a yellow border as a symbol of the People's Republic of Albania. After the fall of the socialist state, the star was abolished, leaving the current flag as official, on April 7, 1992.

ICONOGRAPHY
double headed eagle
MEANING
The double-headed eagle traces back to Gjergj Kastriot, considered to be the national hero of Albania, an Albanian turned Turkish General in the 15th century under the name of Skanderbeg, who would later turn to the Christian faith and fight against the Turks during the 1440s. In his combats he used the seal of the Byzantine double-headed eagle, hence the image of the animal on the current Albanian flag.

SHIELD
The coat of arms of Albania is an adaptation of the state flag. It is based on the seal of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg (1405-1468), a national hero during the fight against the Ottoman occupation. Precisely the emblem on the head of the double-headed eagle is the helmet of Skanderbeg, with two goat horns. It is gules, with a sable double-headed eagle. Finally, a representation of Skanderbeg's gold helmet.
Described in the 1999 Constitution, it was officially adopted on July 31, 2002, replacing that of the former People's Republic of Albania, of a socialist type, with the saber eagle surmounted by a five-pointed red star and surrounded by bundles of gold spikes, tied with a gules ribbon with the inscription "24 Maj 1944" (in Spanish, May 24, 1944), date of the Congress of Përmet, where Enver Hoxha was proclaimed prime minister of the Albanian Provisional Government during the occupation Nazi.
